It began with a passion for cheerleading and a business degree from University of Florida. 

 

My name is Katrina Dorsey and I am the coach and founder of McDowell Cheer Masters, LLC. I cheered for West McDowell Junior High and McDowell High School before continuing on my cheerleading path as a cheerleader at the University of Florida. At UF I cheered on the all-girl competitive team following my passion for all star cheerleading at the college level. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Warrington College of Business (University of Florida's business school), I returned home to McDowell County. I began teaching gymnastics at the McDowell County Recreation Department and while there mentioned to some parents that I had no idea what I wanted to be when I "grew up" but that one day I would love to open a cheerleading gym. Through the help of some great parents I began to make that dream a reality. 

 

Now my passion has become my career and I love going to work every day! Currently classes and practices are held at the McDowell County Recreation Department, but one day (soon!) I will have my facility with full size practice mats. If the first two years, MCM has expanded from one to two allstar teams with the hope of expanding further. Thank you for all of you who have helped make my dreams a reality and thank you to all the supporters of my cheerleaders. It takes a lot to get a business off the ground, especially one involving cheerleading in a small town. I want to make sure that everyone in McDowell realizes that cheerleading is more than a sideline activity...when you add in judges and a 2.5 minute fast paced routine you get a sport. A sport that so many people around the world share a passion for. And it all begins with one child who says "I want to be a cheerleader..."
